I tried to force activate the fan with a scan tool but it wont turn on. If i un plug the fan it reads 0v at the signal wire. I tried testing continuity between fuse 37 in the glove box and .On manual e46’s the electric fan is situated behind the radiator in front of the water pump and thermostat – in this setup it acts as a “puller fan” – pulling air through the radiators. 1) E-Fan: Electric Radiator Fan, and requires a 40+ Amp fuse; that fuse can be located in the E-box on some models (such as N54), or on JB (Junction Box) Fuse Panel; 2) E . the purpose of this conversion is to remove the mechanical fan (engine driven) and the electric aux fan in front of the radiator, and replace them with the single electric fan used .
When standing in front of the vehicle, facing the engine, on top of the radiator shroud left side is a box with an electrical connector. What is this box.. 2000 323i e46 Sedan If you are able to program your ECM, trace pin 58 on your X1 connector to see what wire is connected to it, i'm willing to bet that there is a wire running to your "low speed" .
After some research I found out the e-box (electronic box) has a fan/blower that is attached to the same fuse. I took it out and discovered that it was indeed the fan that failed which was causing the fuse to blow. A temporary remedy was to disconnect the fan and the CCU will function properly. They are hooked to the 50 AMP fuse in the glove box #36. The third wire is to control the fan speed and comes directly from the DME, there is no other fuse or relay in between. This wire carries a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal.
Fuse box diagram (location and assignment of electrical fuses and relays) for BMW 3-Series E46 (316i, 318i, 318d, 320i, 320d, 323i, 325i, 328i, 330i, 330d). This is a VERY easy, CHEAP (relatively costs nothing) and does not require any drilling or modding your lovely E46. The guide is intended to get your fan running again MANUALLY by hardwiring the fan to a switch so you can turn it on or off MANUALLY. "Electronics-box fan, activation" is what it reads. Found some additional information if you're curious: There's also a decent possibility the fan still works but doesn't activate on one of the speed settings. The main issue I had was verifying proper rotation of the new motor. Did some testing with a 12vdc power adapter and all is good. Old fan was loud and spun at a slow rpm. New fan should keep the ECU compartment nice and cool.
I tried to force activate the fan with a scan tool but it wont turn on. If i un plug the fan it reads 0v at the signal wire. I tried testing continuity between fuse 37 in the glove box and the stripped back part of the signal wire and at the plug but it reads incomplete. The ebox fan fuse is # 2 (30 amp) in the engine electronics fuse carrier. That same fuse protects a lot of other components including the ECM, fuel pump relay, VANOS solenoids, etc. If your engine is otherwise operating properly then the error code is most likely not being caused by a bad fuse.
According to the dealer my E-box Fan is not working. I bought the Fan and ready to install. Which fan are you referring to - the electric fan at the front of the engine? I want to apologize for this lengthy reply before I even begin.
